Here are some frequently asked questions about NYFC Cheerleading.

How are children separated into teams?
Cheerleaders are organized into teams by grade as follows:
Smurf: Grades 1 and 2
Peewee: Grades 3 and 4
Pony: Grades 5 and 6
Midget: Grades 7 and 8

When do the cheerleaders practice?
Practices start the last week of July and run each week for the duration of the season. Practices generally run from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during July and August. Practice times change from 6:00 to 8:00, Tuesday and Thursday during school. Cheerleading coaches may schedule additional practices at their own discretion.

Does the NYFC provide uniforms?
We provide skirts, vests, crop tops, pants, warm up jackets, bloomers and hair bows.  Parents will need to provide white ankle socks, white cheer sneakers, clear rain poncho and black knit gloves.  Ponchos are available to purchase during online registration for a minimal fee.  They are durable, with a hood and zipper that will last through multiple seasons.

Do the cheerleaders cheer at scrimmages and JV games?

No, cheerleaders do not cheer at scrimmages or at JV games.

Do the cheerleaders participate in competitions?

Over the past several seasons, the cheerleaders have participated in local competitions that include recreation squads, including a competition that is hosted by the CFA.  It is left to the discretion of the VP of Cheer to decide if and how many competitions the girls will participate in. Not all squads may participate in a competition.  It is dependent on the requirements of the competition and at the discretion of the head coach.  Additional fees may apply if your child is going to participate in a competition.  The fee helps to cover charges for practice facilities.  The competitions that NYFC participates in are typically held after the regular season ends in October, November or December.
